The Glorious Twelfth

Today is The Glorious Twelfth and the opening of the grouse season. Anyone with legitimate access to a grouse moor in Scotland or Yorkshire and any sense will be out there today banging away at the highest and fastest. If you have to pay, it ain't cheap.

The Second Marquis of Ripon was probably the best game shot of all time and, using three guns and two loaders, he sometimes had up to seven dead birds in the air at the same time.

Having just shot a skyful of grouse, he dropped dead. What a way to go.

PS I have just noticed that today is the inglorious eleventh and I got ahead of myself! Still, the meaning is fairly clear!
