You Know That You're Past It When

... a forty something woman sympathetically offers you her seat on the 'bus. I am still wincing.

Today, as anyone in a Roman Catholic country will tell you, is the Feast Day of St Sebastian, heralded here, as these days always are, by fireworks shot into the face of the rising sun: bloody infuriating.

  1. Ah, I'm sure she just wanted to offer you a free lap dance. And to do that you had, of course, to be seated first ;)

  2. LSS - thank you for your kind interpretation! Actually, Brazilians will break into lengthy conversation with total strangers in queues, on 'buses etc and, once sitting in a waiting area a little old lady next to me suddenly handed me a sweet, as though it were the most natural thing in the world.

  3. It's interesting how things like that differ from nation to nation. Sweden and Denmark are neighbours, but there are significant differences in behavior on trains and buses. Danish and Swedish trains are actually designed differently on the basis of these cultural differences. Generally, the Danes more to socialize with strangers.
